There are airports in Denver (DEN), Cheyenne, WY (CYS), and Steamboat Springs/Hayden (HDN). The Denver International Airport is 70 miles (1 hour 15 minutes) from Ft. Collins; the Cheyenne Airport is close - 47 miles/50 minutes, but you would reach Cheyenne via a commuter flight from DIA. The Steamboat Springs/Hayden Airport is 25 mile/40 minute drive from Steamboat Springs, but a 182 mile/4 hour 30 minute drive to Ft. Collins. There are both direct and connecting flights from DIA to Steamboat Springs. A return drive from Steamboat Springs to DIA would be 181 miles/3 hour 45 minute drive and to Cheyenne 175 miles/3 hour 45 minute drive.

The Wild West Relay has formed a partnership with Enterprise Rent-a-Car for special discounted rates for WWR participants. August is a busy season for rental car companies, so reserve early!

Reservations for 15-passenger vans need to be made directly through Enterprise. Other vehicles (mini-vans, SUVs) can also be rented from Enterprise. You will receive a 5% discount off the current rate.

Advantages of renting through Enterprise through RLTRelays are:

  • A confirmed rate
  • Offices at Denver International and Cheyenne Airports, all along the Front Range (Ft. Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs), and delivery service to Steamboat Springs/Yampa Valley Airport from their Craig office (additional delivery charges apply)
  • Your rental is on a corporate account – corporate account rentals are given priority over the average rental, which means your vehicle is essentially guaranteed (allowing for the extreme exception: mechanical breakdown, etc.)
  • We have an agreement with Enterprise so that there will NOT be a charge for extra drivers (as many rental car companies will). If the Enterprise branch does try to charge you, please ask them to read the conditions for the Timberline Events account.
  • Enterprise still rents 15-passenger vans in some areas – many rental companies have phased them out

Plan to arrive at the Budweiser Tour Center in Ft. Collins one hour before your assigned start. This is necessary for the team to go through the check-in process, equipment safety check, and to pick up the team's shirts and goodie bags.

Consider extending your stay in Steamboat and take advantage of the many natural attractions and events taking place.
