FLAMING FOLIAGE CHALLENGE
A solo virtual challenge - registration is now open
In the fall of 2019, we designed a four-piece medal that runners could earn by completing the Flaming Foliage Relay each year from 2020 through 2023. Each medal was based on a different Rocky Mountain tree in their fall colors. A piece of hardware is used to screw them all together, completing the Colorado State symbol in the middle.
The pandemic threw a monkey wrench into those plans. In 2019, the FFR was held as a virtual race. In 2020, many runners were still hesitant to participate in events.
I've been asked by several runners how they could earn a 2020 or 2021 medal. The Flaming Foliage Challenge was born as a response.
HOW DOES THE FLAMING FOLIAGE CHALLENGE WORK
The Flaming Foliage Challenge is a solo, virtual adventure. To earn a medal, a runner needs to complete and document that they have run the distances of all thirty legs, a total of 163.4 miles. The runs can happen anywhere and the distances in any order. All the runner needs to do (besides run) is to log into our online registration program, click on the Enter Results button, enter your time by each leg's distance, and upload a photo of your watch or GPS to verify your time and distance.
Your challenge is to complete the equivalent distance of all 30 legs of the Flaming Foliage Relay. The medal of your choice will be mailed to you upon completion.
