FLAMING FOLIAGE RELAY ULTRA TEAMS
5 x 6 Ultra Teams
Super Ultra Teams
5 x 6 Ultra Team
- 5 x 6 Ultra teams are permitted one vehicle (see Rules).
- Competitive 5 x 6 Ultra teams run their legs in rotation, staying in order for the whole race, running the same legs and using the same exchanges as the 10-person teams. Thus each runner runs 6 times. And a complete and accurate time sheet is required to be turned in at the finish for all teams that want to be classified as competitive.
- All other Rules apply.
COMPETITIVE
Ultra teams (4 - 5 runners) have six competitive categories to choose from. Competitive means that the team keeps their running order, switching runners each leg of the race, in rotation, in the same order.
- Men's - all men
- Women's - all women
- Open - any combination of gender
- Masters - all team members over 40; a photocopy of each runner’s drivers license will be required to be submitted at the Start
NON-COMPETITIVE
The Helter Skelter category is available for Ultra teams and is a non-competitive category. Whereas competitive teams must follow the standard relay rules of keeping the running order of their team intact, the Helter Skelter category is for teams that choose to have their runners run in any order they want. No awards are given in the Helter Skelter category.
LEG CHART
Each individual leg's rating is based on its difficulty due to the elevation gain/loss as the mileage speaks for itself. The "Overall Difficulty Ranking" takes into account both mileage and the each leg's rating.
To get an idea of how much fun a 5x6 team can be, here is an article from a 6x6 team member during the 2005 Wild West Relay that was published in the Denver Post.

Super Ultra Teams - 3 Runners
- Super Ultra teams get one vehicle.
- Super Ultra team vans are not allowed, for any reason, to pace their runners. However, the vans can arrange to meet a runner at any Exchange Point or pullout along their route to support their runner (water, energy bars, etc.)
- Super Ultra Team runners may have a pacer on foot. ALL pacers must have a light and wear a reflective vest and red blinking light from dusk to dawn. ALL pacers must follow all runner rules.
- Super Ultra teams can discuss with the Race Director to make arrangements to start early. The goal is to have Super Ultra Teams finish during the time period other teams are finishing.
All other rules apply.
