Scenic Rural Routes

We admit it, we are elitist snobs when it comes to running in beautiful areas. In designing our relay races, we searched for the back roads that highlighted the scenery, routes that we would want to run, not routes that would handle hundreds of teams. You won't find runners in our relays on the shoulders of four-lane highways. What fun is that? If you were to run all four hundred miles of our two current long-distance races, you would come to only one stop light!

Many other relay races are adopting features we initiated: We've started the use of the "1 Mile to Go" signs on each leg, introduced the 6x6 Ultra team category, and created a non-competitive category (Helter Skelter - for those who were more interested in having fun than racing), all back in our first race in 2005.

Giving Back to the Community

Another innovation we started, the one we are most proud of, is giving teams the option to make a tax-deductible donation in lieu of providing volunteers. We recruit local non-profit organizations from all along our relay routes to become involved. Our events over the years have raised and distributed over $280,000 to participating local non-profit organizations through our Volunteers With a Purpose, Inc. 501(c)(3) program. Most of the local non-profit groups return year after year to be part of our races.

Other races have also adopted this idea, be we are the only relay company that went through the expense to create a non-profit to handle this aspect of our races.Your donations are not an additional revenue stream to our bottom line.  They go to nonprofit groups located in the communities you are running through!

In addition, Timberline Events is one of the longest standing members (since 2006) of 1% For the Planet. We donate one percent of our total revenue to environmental organizations.

Quality and Customer Service

Our goal is not to be the biggest relay races, but to run the most organized relays on beautiful routes. You can't have as high a quality event with several hundred teams, let alone with a thousand plus, as you can with just a hundred to two hundred teams. We want you to have a unique relay experience on a beautiful course, so it will be one of the highlights of your running career.

Timberline Events LLC is a small, Colorado owned race management company. We don't have an office staff. When you email Roads Less Traveled Relays, you'll receive a quick response from the actual race director!
